Best Practices

🎯 Use Descriptive Titles

Make titles specific: "Heat Stress - July 2024" instead of just "Health Note". This helps you find information quickly later.

🎯 Date Your Observations

While notes are automatically timestamped, include dates in your content for events that happened in the past.

🎯 Organize Attachments

Use consistent naming: "2024-12-ARBA-Registration.pdf" makes files easier to identify than "scan0001.pdf".

🎯 Regular Updates

Add notes after each breeding, show, or health event. Fresh observations are more accurate than trying to remember later.

🎯 Scan Important Documents

Create digital copies of paper records. Upload registration papers, health certificates, and purchase receipts for safekeeping.

Organization Strategies

Note Categories

Start note titles with category prefixes for easy scanning:

  • [BREED] - Breeding performance notes
  • [HEALTH] - Medical and health observations
  • [SHOW] - Show results and judge comments
  • [TEMP] - Temperament and behavior
  • [FEED] - Feeding and nutrition notes
  • [GEN] - General observations

Attachment Naming Convention

Develop a consistent file naming system:

Format: YYYY-MM-DD-Type-Description.ext
Example: 2024-12-15-REG-ARBA-Certificate.pdf
Example: 2024-11-20-HEALTH-Vet-Checkup.jpg

Planned Enhancements

Future updates will include:

  • Edit and Delete - Modify or remove existing notes
  • Rich Text Editor - Format notes with bold, lists, etc.
  • File Preview - View images and PDFs without downloading
  • Categories/Tags - Organize notes by type
  • Search - Find notes and attachments quickly
  • Templates - Pre-formatted notes for common entries
  • Bulk Upload - Add multiple attachments at once
  • Cloud Storage - Integration with Google Drive/Dropbox

Common Issues

Check file size - most servers limit uploads to 2-10MB. Try reducing file size or contact support for server limits. Also ensure the file type is allowed (PDF, JPG, PNG, DOC are typically accepted).

Make sure the "Show Notes" toggle is enabled in the breeder modal. Notes may also take a moment to appear - try refreshing the page. Check that you're viewing the correct breeder profile.

Note editing and deletion are not yet available. As a workaround, add a new note with updated information and reference the previous note. Include "UPDATE:" or "CORRECTION:" in the title for clarity.

Files should download with their original names. If you're getting generic names, check your browser settings. You can rename files after downloading. Make sure to use descriptive filenames when uploading.
